BIO

From the New York jazz scene, Central European metal festivals, to the Quebec city punk rock scene and francophone electro-pop, Michel Maurer's unique musical path has no boundaries, constantly crossing continents and music styles. Born in Geneva, Switzerland, drummer and composer Michel Maurer currently lives in New York City where he is developing his quartet, the project MERIDIAN. Cultivating a multifaceted drumming that finds its roots in punk, metal and experimental music, he is now involved in the jazz, hip-hop and improvised music scenes where he works as a sideman. A passionate educator for more than twenty years, Michel Maurer keeps a regular teaching schedule with his European and North American drum students.

Since 2000 Michel Maurer has played with a wide range of musicians and bands on stages and in recording studios, touring Europe and the North American continent (France, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, Malta, Canada, USA, Cuba) and has collaborated on 20 albums.

More recently Michel Maurer has initiated a music project with guitarist Alex Levine, saxophonist Peyton Pleninger and bassist Ben Rolston to create the quartet MERIDIAN, a vehicle to express his musical visions through original compositions and improvised music. The music of this project reflects five years of deep immersion in the New York City and Brooklyn jazz scene. Outside In Music’s Next Level will release Michel Maurer Meridian’s album, The Shape Of Noon, on October 4th, 2019.
